About the Author
Jennings Wagoner is emeritus Professor of the History of Education at the U. of Virginia. A past president of the History of Education Society and vice president of Division F (History and Historiography) of the American Educational Research Association, he was a recipient of the Outstanding Professor Award from Virginia’s Curry School of Education.
Wayne Urban is Professor of Education at the U. of Alabama. A former president of the History of Education Society and of the American Educational Studies Association, he is currently the secretary of the International Standing Conference for the History of Education. Among his other books are:

Painful

I purchased this book as a required text for one my classes. However, I found that it was not very engaging to the reader and was actually quite painful to fulfill my required readings. As a constant reader, I am drawn to reading just about anything including textbooks. This is one of those few books I could easily put aside without a second thought.

Easy to read and insightful

The author adds a nice tone the reading. Even though the book is full of information, it reads pretty smoothly. There were some pages that were a little dry, but they are easily passable. I gave this book a 4 out of 5 because at time the content comes off a little dense. For the most part, this book is a must read for any student that is learning about the history of education.
