Strange as it may seem, the greater part of this story had been enacted before I realised that it would devolve on me to narrate it in book form.

When first I saw vaguely this unwelcome task before me there was fresh in my mind not only the benefit which we had derived from studying the records of former Polar voyages, but the disappointment which we had sometimes suffered from the insufficient detail which they provided. It appeared to me in consequence that the first object in writing an account of a Polar voyage was the guidance of future voyagers; the first duty of the writer was to his successors.

I have done my best to keep this object in view, and I give this explanation because I am conscious that it has led me into descriptive detail which will probably be tiresome to the ordinary reader. As, however, such matter is more or less massed into certain portions of the book, I take comfort from reflecting that the interested reader will have no difficulty in avoiding such parts as he may consider tedious.

I have endeavoured to avoid the use of technicalities, but in all cases this has not been possible, as the English language is poor in words descriptive of conditions of ice and snow. I take the opportunity, therefore, of defining some technical words that I have used freely.

Névé - the packed snow of a snow-field, an accumulation of minute ice crystals. This word is, of course, well known to mountaineers.

I didn't know that Scott could be amusing and detailed at the same time

This book is a nice example of how to make a real life story, entertained and detailed in descriptions at the same time. The first expedition of Scott is vivdly told from the account of the same Robert F. Scott in the first of legendary expeditions going to the south pole 100 ya. If you have been to London anytime, it will make you enjoy more, because Scott describes the first stages of his voyage in London and how the english people helped him to undertake this huge mission.
Highly reccomendable for those who enjoy reading about adventures and expeditions...

A glorious paradigm shift!

Skip Moen's GUARDIAN ANGEL is surely the most affirming and challenging book I have ever read. If you have sometimes wondered what the ORIGINAL words meant, as recorded in the Biblical text, you will now be able to see beyond our modern day English. This study examines those Hebrew and Greek words that describe the design, and instruct the behavior for men and women, husbands and wives.

The paramount emphasis on ORDER does not focus on 'Who is in charge?' - but on 'Am I fulfilling my assigned role and responsibility?' From the creation account, through the words of Jesus, and including those of Paul and Peter, the original word pictures are verbally illustrated to the reader, showing the reflected image of the Creator.

A few of the ideas brought out that I particularly appreciate are: * Scripture's perspective is that it is the MAN who needs a woman, not the other way around. * A defective understanding of God's design for women leads directly to broken relationships. * Displacing God's order destroys ALL order. * The issue of authority determines the difference between being human and being an animal. * Submission is the mark of every believer.

The extensive annotation throughout not only enhances understanding of this work, but also presents additional resources. This book will encourage a sense of empowerment for the woman, and a sense of freedom for the man. Once you see the definitions that the Creator uses, you will never see yourself (or your spouse) the same way you did before.

Guardian Angel Revealed!

This book was introduced to me when my whole world seemed to be falling apart. It was actually through diverse circumstances and divine appointment that it actually wove its way into my life. Everything that I had put my heart and soul in for in the last 8 years and seemed to be coming to fruition ~ was unraveling (for me) before my very eyes. My entire life was but a thin thread from slipping away.

As I began to turn the pages of the Guardian Angel, light bulbs began to flicker and then the truth flooded over me like only the truth can do! All of my resources, all of my strength, all of the qualities that have been designed into the 'ezer kenegdo' by the Creator Himself into me ... had been transferred onto my son who shared the same passion in life as I. Now that his own 'ezer kenegdo' was beginning to stand by his side, my place was now... out of place. BUT ... with the explanations put forth by Skip Moen in the Guardian Angel, NOW I knew the sequences that caused the walls to come tumbling down. NOW I could regroup, recollect, and understand from a totally different perspective - YHVH's perspective, and come to grips of the whys and wherefores of how and why I had misplaced my gifts around my son instead of my husband.

Thank you Skip for braving the waters of inconvenient truths so that those who have ears to hear and eyes to see - can begin to walk (even at a mature age!) in their God-given descriptive roles and be fruitful and complete in their remaining years. I will forever be grateful (as will my sons and husband)!

What every man and woman must know to have a healthy relationship!

Skip Moen's new book Guardian Angel is outstanding. Being a woman, it was a painful read to understand the role of woman,helpmate (Hebrew: ezer kenegdo) and how it has been thwarted throughout human history.

The Hebrew word ezer is a combination of two roots: `-z-r, meaning to rescue, to save. The noun ezer appears numerous times in the OT. In many cases it is associated with with power and strength. Due to poor translations of Scripture woman throughout history has been relegated to a "less than" position. The helpmate, ezer kenegdo is not a man's personal assistant but his actual guide, without which he is lost. And, our culture reveals that he is truly lost and wrecking havoc on the world. Men, please read this book and let your significant other do what she was designed to do, guide and protect you. Women, please read this book so that you can know how to do what you intuitively know already know.

Zamprioli, aka Kallamity, is a painter, graphic artist and sculptor. He currently specialises in creating collectible limited edition mecha design robots which are highly sought-after. He designs the master patterns that are then cast and he assembles the pieces to create "machine dolls" ranging in size from about a foot high to the head of a pin.

Amazing book of mecha model design

[[VIDEOID:mo17VBKC3N2EHD3]]This is an amazing book featuring the mecha art and models of Luca Zampriolo, aka Kallamity. Great for anyone interested in assembling, building or designing mechas.

The concept is set in the future in a world that has run out of resources. The idea is not particular unique but more to provide background. As usual, there will be one powerful entity, in this case the Weingart family, who has the power and technology to build all sorts of stuff of which some are mechas.

The book starts of with concept art for the dystopia future world. It looks like there are mining plants built everywhere, even in cities with skyscrapers there are factories spilling out smoke just beside.

The rest of the book are concept art for mechas and a selected few are being made into actual models. There are only a few featured because each one has an crazy amount of detail. One model took 11 months to finish. They are mainly the walker-type heavy mechas, a spaceship carrier and a crew all suited up. You can see some design influence from Kow Yokoyama which was mentioned in the book.

There are photos of all the created parts either by casting or sculpting. The models are made from Milliput (bicomponent stucco) and plasticard. For one of the human models, Super Sculpey was used.

Every piece created is intricately designed and worked on. For example, you can see all the tiny holes for ventilation grills. All surfaces have details even though some were eventually covered up by other parts. There are also many photos from different angles, and photos at different stages of completion.

Lengthy commentary is provided on how each mecha was designed and built. It's not tutorial style so it's not a beginners book. Some of what's mentioned might make more sense to actual model builders. Towards the end, there are also some guest designers featured, like Michael Fichtenmayer, Ryu Seoung Ho, Matt Tomczek and Jason Stalnaker.

Highly recommended for mecha lovers. Even if you don't build or assemble them, there are plenty of designs to see.

One man's heart and soul put into book form

There's not a whole lot to say other than some of the work in this book is just mind-blowing. I think it's amazing how he kit-bashed together all these awesome mech designs. Plus, if I remember correctly, he's spent 11 years working on this whole storyline he's created. You can tell he's passionate about his craft. I wish I was as dedicated. I'll admit, I haven't read through all the text just yet. I was more interested in the artistic side. His drawings/paintings aren't great, but I bought this for the sculpting/kit-making parts of the book. If you're looking for a book with lots of different variations of mecha, this is probably not the best place to look. A lot of the designs are similar, as they are supposed to be chronological upgrades of older mechs in this world he's created. Interesting stuff.

Good illustrations, and good story too.

Nice story that goes with even nicer drawings. I didn't know anything about this author but I really like mecha design, this book fulfills both the imaging and a good story as well. I would recommend if you like mechas and sci-fi stories. I won't spoil or anything but the story happens in the future when only a handful of families control de world supplies of fuel.

EDIT:
So I finished reading this book and I wanted to give an update. This book has a small story about the mecha world, but also has some detailed photographs and tips on how the artist creates, models and paints some of its models. It has some techniques to use table salt to weather your model kits and, though it is not a manual on how to paint model kits, gives some good tips to amateurs like me.

Overall I would recommend this book if you are interested both in mecha design and model kit building.

A bright light on the long shadow of rewritten history.

I lived through the Roosevelt depression. I was young, but since we had no TV, no telephone, no internet, I spent many evenings listening to adult conversations. Many men and women held the position that FDR caused the Hoover recession to become the Great Depression with bad money policies. This book is spot on!

Good summary of what went on.

This is a good summary of the criticisms of the government's performance during the Great Depression. Hoover and FDR are both criticized, but especially FDR. If you like the material I would recommend reading one of the bigger books the author references. Start it with an open mind.

Very educational book. Illuminates the facts of the Great Depression, unlike the fiction we are taught in school. Good examples of government and good intentions going bad and subsequent refusal by those in power to accept the reality of their failed policies.
